So you have decided to start your Nature Planted Aquarium. First of all, congratulations. A Nature Planted Aquarium can be one of your most beautiful decoration at home, not mentioning the joy that you can derive by making it into a family fun activity.

Setting up and maintaining a Nature Planted Aquarium may seem daunting at first, but if you break it down and understand it through its various sub-systems, it is really, a simple affair. In this article, we bring you through a photo journal of setting up a Planted Aquarium, Step By Step.

Please feel free to email us your doubts and questions at sales@midori-sg.com.
Step By Step with BorneoWild

Select driftwood and rocks suitable for your tank size according to your design.   Prepare the necessary substrate additives (BorneoWild Balance, Boost P, Bacter Crystal, Bacter Energy) and the layout tools.

Select a porous media as the base layer of your substrate system in which the substrate ecology takes place.   Lay a thin layer of it over the entire bottom of the aquarium.

Sprinkle a layer of BALANCE (Mineral) and enough BOOST P as the main source of nutrients for the plants.   Next, sprinkle a layer BACTER CRYSTAL (Bacterial) and BACTER ENERGY (Bacterial food).

A completed substrate additive.   Use a SAND FLATTENER to push the media back, away from the front, and sides of glass where it is visible.

All three sides which are visible are cleared.   Use a small tub and cover the cleared area with aquarium soil.

Cover the sides. Covering the sides and fronts ensures that none of the different colored porous media can be seen.   Now, cover the top with soil too.

Create a slow with 1-2" at the front and 4-6" at the back. This gives your aquascaping depth of field and appears 3 dimensional.   Soil poured and flattened. We are now ready to do some aquascaping!

Place your first center piece securely into the tank.   Place the rest of the BorneoWild Malayan Driftwood accordingly.

Adjust the driftwoods to the positions desired.   Using the rocks selected, push it against the slope of soil at areas where soil granules are most likely to slide down.

Pour more soil at the corners to create a more interested background line.   Shape up the lines with the SAND FLATTENER.

Do all touching up and we are ready for plants.   Using a BorneoWild Pinsette, we start planting with the plants in front. Add some water to soften and compact the soil for ease of planting. You can slowly raise the water level as you plant up and backward.

For plants that came with long roots, shorten it with a BorneoWild Short Cutter encourages new roots to grow faster.   Shorter plants can be planted in the middle ground.

For bigger plants, hold on to the leaves and bury it gently into the soil with the Pinsette.   When necessary, cut away extra or big leaves which obstruct planting.

The background plants are usually the tallest of all and are planted last.   Planting completed. We are ready to add water!
Now all you need to do next is to fill up water slowly, start up the filters and set the lights to come on for 6-8 hours a day. We will cover the maintenance tips in another articles.
