This article is a translation from a discussion (2004) on popular arowana website in Thailand whereby the author is an experienced and well known arowana keeper. The author is the biggest toy importer and wholesaler in Thailand and keeps arowana as a hobby only. Firstly, I would strongly advise you to use your discretion with this post since it is to introduce you to a product, "Arowick".
"Arowick" is a liquid vitamin for arowana. (It is also good for other kinds of fish).
From now on we'll call it "AW".
Please keep in mind that I'm just an ordinary arowana keeper and a customer,
therefore the AW that I used to test with, was self-bought, not free and I have to tell you, it is very priceeeey!!
At first I planned to test it for over 3 months before I would give out any information. However, so many people were rushing and pressing me on this. Well, I actually have recommended many friends to try it out so that we could share our comments, and I've been using the product on all of my arowanas.
I've to admit that it was a biased trial because I didn't think the product would be all that great.

Once I've tried it, I was VERY satisfied. So satisfied that I'd have to keep buying this product whenever it runs out. ^_^
However, after testing AW with all my arowanas, I've gained much insight into this product. So I'll be giving out all the details in this post. |

AW is a liquid vitamin, came with a nozzle. There are 2 types to suite both red and golden arowana.
On early period, use 1cc AW per 500 litre water.
Even though there are many fish in the tank, DO NOT multiply the dose.
I've had conversations with Pisith, the producer of FERKA AW.
After many long discussions, I became more and more comfortable with trying out the product and I'm certain enough to recommend it to others.
Pisith is a true pharmacist with knowledge, logic and principle, whom we can trust that we're not wasting money just buying comfort or worst, damaging our own fish. |

From what this product blurbs, the benefits are:
Reducing the stress
increases food appetite
the fish become more active and swift
developement in color, scale and shape
As I first read it I wasn't sure what to expect out of "active and swift", I mean, my fish swim around just fine.
So I tried it out to see if it's any good.
I have lots of fish, some are not such good eaters and some lacks stability of its color, etc.
Talking about food appetite, after 3-4 days... (I won't even mention ones that already have good appetite.) More than half of the fish that don't eat much became ravenous!
There are some that you can't really see any change. They eat about the same.
However, after 3-4 more days... those "no change" fish started to change. They eat so much better.
Still.. There is one left that shows no improvement.
But I have to tell you, those ones that eat better are very satisfactory, they are just gluttonous! They eat like pigs.

All my friends experienced the same.
Fish with bad appetite became fish with great appetite. I mean they became obsesed with eating. Throw anything in, they eat it, deliciously. LOL
Anyways, there is a downside. I tried AW with my red group tank for awhile then I had to stop. They bit each other up real bad.
So now they've got ragged tails ^_^' |

When the fish gains appetite, everything go easy.
The reason is because fish bring out best color when they are happy.
When fish eat well, they become happy.
When they are happy, they become active and swift.
Then the color starts showing off and brightening up.
As for the golden ones, it was not only my opinion but also my wife's. She notices that "Gold Bar" looked more shimmery after about 1 week of application.

Actually I've tried doubling the dose, just to find out if it would do any harm to the fish.
I expressed my concern on safty issue to Pisith and he said not to worry because he put highest priority to this issue. He doesn't recommend it though. Doubling the dose up many times won't be good.
The result I had from doubling up the dose is just the same as normal dose. No harm to the fish or any downside except from wasting the product.
(However, I don't recommend doubling up the dose many times neither) |

I asked Pisith about the reason for having separated vitamin for both color arowana. He said the components are the same, just differs in proportion.
Oh, and I asked if it is hormone and he assured it is not. So don't worry. |

I really have to admit that it's vry expensive. But if you ask me, I think it's worth it. And I only use AW with some of my arowanas, not because they are my favorite though, but with some that doesn't get any better over a period, you have to admit it is not going to get better, so there's no point on keep using.
The way I see it, it's just like when we give kids vitamins.
My son is a little bit skinny. He doesn't eat much and the doctor prescribe some vitamins for all my kids.
Turns out my 2 daughters gained some more but nothing with my son (He's just too eager on playing) ^_^' |

Another thing is that, I started off using it daily, and my fish tank were huge! So yeah it was lots of vitamin.
However, after a month or so, I started using it every other day and I'm now reducing to twice a week.
It's just like how it is when you have bad skin. In early period you'd have to use a lot of lotion, but when it got better, you use smaller amount, just to maintain the skin health. Like that. |

The small one is 700-800. If you use it with 60x24x24 size tank, it'd last about a little over a month.
Expensive but great. I'd continue using it on and on.
You asked about the side effect from long continuous usage. This is what matters. Well, Pisith said it's perfectly safe, but me, I don't know because I haven't been using it that long.
I said I was very happy with his product, that it's a great product. I'm sure it isn't going to come and go.
People will stick to it. So would he pleases lower the price?
Oh well, he said the components in his product is premium and that the manufacturing scale is still small so he doesn't see how he could presses down the price.
If only I could buy litre bottles. LOL

Almost forgot.
I sometimes use AW to mix with the fish food like sergestid shrimps.
Press paper towel on the shrimps to dry out the water a bit then mix it up with AW.
The vitamin is acidity.
In conclusion,
the product works with all my fish, except for one that it takes no effect at all. The other all gain huge appetite. Some, the color develop distinctively and some, not so distinctive.
I don't recommend it with group tank. They will fight. Not just my tank but according to my friend's tank also.
Let's just say.. if you're interested, feel free to try it out. But remember, it's your wallet, not mine. LOL

ENVIRONMENTAL
Size of the tank
Even the largest tank most people can provide for arowanas, it is still a very small one when compared to their natural habitat. Tanks that are too amall for the size of arowanas always lead to many problems such as eating behavior, infection and stress
Quality of water
Most people feel that clear water is good quality water, but that is not all to it. Water quality for different kinds of fish should concern pH, hardness, concentration or various elements both the harmful ones and the essential ones.
Suitable filtration system both in term of size and filtering materials is a critical factor in the small world of large fish like arowana.
Nutritioning
Receiving complete nutrition both macro and micro nutrients is essence in keeping arowanas,especially for young fish which are developing their every organs and also their colour; older adult fish will also require good nutrition since their organs are degrading.
There is a big difference between just keeping them growing and having them fully developed.
For adult arowanas, it is more difficult to maintain them in good condition, because at this state they eat less, due to many factors especially for the digestive system, while requirement for all the nutrients is still at a high level. It is difficult to know if fish are receiving all essence elements or not . arowana is carnivorous while many elements like vitamins and mineral are abundant in vegetable and fruit.
Arowanas that live in nature can select all food by themselves, so it is very easy that they become depressed and start ignoring their daily feed when they are kept in a small restricted area.

WHAT AROWICK CAN DO FOR YOUR AROWANA
Arowick consists of vitamins and precursor, necessary for synthesizing process, and other vitamins that are essential for both development and restoration.
Arowick consists of crucial proportion of both organic and inorganic salts in order to create balance for both dietary and water quality suit for fish. Beside vitamins and minerals ,Arowick also consist of essential amino acid which is hard to be find in dialy feed.
Arowick reduces the chance that carnivorous fish like arowanas become depressed, thus increases their appetite, making them healthy and active, and increases the development of their color, shape and scale. Arowick also help maintaining good condition in mature arowanas.
Arowick will also help with healing the woulds that weren’t caused by infection. Applying Arowick to the water (3 times of normal dose on only the first day) before releasing arowanas to a new environment will help a lot in reducing their stress.
Please note that reduce of using interval can be done after your fish is in good condition.
